D3Splint Simple Shell Cheat Sheet

In this exercise you will learn to get comfortable with the basic steps needed to make a Simple Shell.  This appliance is not a very useful appliance alone, but it is the foundation upon which more advanced appliances are constructed.  These steps follow the video tutorial.

Introduction

  1. How to Check Version [00:05]
  2. Confirm Settings [00:22]
  3. Save User Settings [00:58]

Setup Project

  1. Choose Jaw Type (defaulted to Maxilla so not necessary)
  2. Choose Workflow [01:14]
  3. Import STL models [01:22]

Basic Navigation [01:37]

  • ‘Alt + LeftMouse’ to Rotate the view
  • ‘Scroll Wheel’ to Zoom
  • ‘Alt + Shift + LeftMouse’ to Pan
  • ‘Numpad_5’ to change camera perspective

Pick Models

  1. Set Splint Model [02:10]
  2. Set Opposing [02:22]
  3. Set Landmarks [02:30]

Insertion Axis/Path of Draw

  1. Survey Model [03:08]

Splint Shell Design

  1. Mark Splint Margin [04:24]
  2. Trim Model [06:17]
  3. Adjust Margin [06:38] (optional)
  4. Retrim Model (optional)
  5. Splint Shell [07:51]

Fit and Retention

  1. Refractory Model [09:05]
  2. Finalize the Splint [10:29]
  3. Confirm Boolean Success [10:45]

Extra Credit: Verify Thickness [11:11]

  • Ensure mouse is hovered in 3D view
  • Hit “Space Bar”
  • Type “Ruler”
  • Left click on “Ruler” (Don’t hit Enter)
  • Left click and drag on Splint
  • Hold “Shift” and Left Click on one handle of the ruler, and drag.
